Almost done...

Posted by R1665 - March 1st, 2010

Over the last month, progress on VG Exiles Episode 3 has been slower than expected, but still visible. At this moment, I would estimate that the fight portion of this video is now less than a minute away from being finished. I'll probably add another 20-30 seconds or so to my original fight length.

Honestly, most of the progress made over the month of February has been done over the past week. I've kinda gone on an animating binge and I plan to roll it over into March. I'm actually hoping to have the fight done by the end of the month because it seems to be taking too long to finish compared to the previous installments. Self-imposed time constraints. I don't want to get to the point where it takes me a year to make one of these videos. Still, even if I do finish this fight by the end of March, I will still have to do all of the story stuff, menus, credits, and whatnot. I'll probably have to wait a little while on the voices and art, too. It's unavoidable.

Regardless, you can rest assured that SOME progress is being made.

-----------------

After my last news post, I mentioned the possibility of adding a screen shot to my March update. Submitted below for your viewing pleasure is the aforementioned image. As you can see, Scorpion will be making a cameo appearance In VG EXILES EP.3! In this screen, he is wondering exactly what this strange shadow is that seems to have engulfed him...

On a completely, absolutely, 100% unrelated note, I now believe that this fight will go down as the bloodiest, deadliest, and most violent sprite fight in the history of flash animation. If you thought Episode 2 was hardcore, just wait until you see this beast.

I love your work. I prefer when its the MK side who win, but in this video it seen that scorpion will die quickly and a lot MK characters like ryu and street fighter . I was happy to see ryu die in one shot. You proove that the street figther are not invicible. Keep the good work.

With me, you can always count on death being swift and brutal at all the right times. What can I say? I love split-second kills!

R1665

Woo, Can't wait. I've been looking forward to the next installment.

ohhhh!!! i cant wait!!!!

Don't let me down!

I know a flash will hit pay dirt when I can watch my movie previews and spend twenty minutes laughing maniacally...

R1665

Can't wait for this one. Considering how good ep 2 was, this one is going to make people seizure. Well, whatever. Just don't burn yourself out, take breaks now and then. That's what I do, I can't animate more than 5 seconds at a time, but that's just me. I have a very short attention span. I can't wait to see whats coming next.

Actually, I consider a gain of five seconds to be a damn good day, especially if it's fully produced.

I don't see burnout as a threat. I developed some of my animating methods and general procedures specifically to prevent burnout. The real threat has always been more a general loss of interest. However, given that my animating drive has actually increased since I first started, loss of interest seems to be a non-issue.

I take plenty of breaks from animating on a day-to-day basis, but I never take "vacation" time. I get antsy when I go for any extended period of time without making some level of progress.

R1665

Dude you just made my day!

I've been looking forward to this ep for months, and silently checking ya page each day for updates.

Your sprite work is always top notch and the fight sequences always have a level of variety that is severely lacking in many other amazing but wholly repetitive attempts.

Keep up the good work buddy... Your dedication to the fans is a real inspiration ;)

Just a thought but have you ever considered making an episode where one of the exiles home dimensions is threatened to really build some emotional motivation to the fight and dialogue? Not that ya work needs it but i like to think ahead when waiting for stuff that I love

Personally, I believe that character selection plays a big part in fighting the often repetitive nature of sprite fights. I'm not pointing any fingers here, but it's no wonder that people get uninspired and burned out when they're using the same characters over and over again. You can only do so much with a headswapped Shotoclone.

New characters with new abilities result in new ideas.

R1665

Still wondering who your using, Scorpions Cameo appearance doesn't have something to do with the two main fighters of the plot, does it? Roflmao. I honestly can't wait for the next installment, and as most people do usually take a year to do the sprite animations, yours is understandable because yours actually requires real effort, while most other people just throw stuff together (kind of like Dante's Inferno in comparison to God of War *complete knock off spoiler alert*). Anywhoz'll, keep up the good work and don't worry about your fans losing their minds because "Wah Wah! Your taking too long." Take your time, no rush, they'll wait, roflmao. That said YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!! much props.

It's not so much an issue of the fans getting impatient to see it. It's an issue of me getting impatient to show it off. At the risk of sounding like a douchebag, I must say that I love my work and I love to put it out there for people to see. It certainly doesn't hurt to know that I'm getting pretty damn good at it, too.

For me, sprite fighting is not something that I do begrudgingly. I very much enjoy it. That probably explains why it is now the longest-running hobby I have ever had.

R1665

I Do not want any talk sequence on this one...it takes to much valueable time finding voice actors you know.

I'm afraid that the voice-acted dialogue sequences aren't going anywhere. It's not a problem finding voice actors. In addition to the fine people who have helped me before, I have had many other talented VA's contact me offering their assistance.

I have no shortage of voice actors.

R1665

ohh! im looking forward to it! ^_^ goodluck on making it the bloodiest, deadliest, and most violent sprite fight in the history of flash animation. I tried to make mine the most epic fight flash animation >_< but i failed.... LOL
the title is in your hands now :]

just taking a guess your mortal kombat character wouldn't be cyrax or sektor would it?

I'm afraid that I cannot confirm or deny any character guesses at this time.

Just out of curiosity, what led you to ask about these two in particular?

R1665

Bro.Take as much time as you need.I love the 2 episode. Now what you say about the third makes me want to see it more. But i rather wait for it.So when i see it it will be a big surprise.

You got fans that wait man.And im one of them.

take your time, in near future i believe you be a really famous name over newgrounds, i have lots of expectations place on you, keep the good work

I'm sure he already is a famous name on here.

Ay r thoughs buildings in the background the ones from that one movie company logo.

I may have been frontpaged a couple of times, but I'm far from famous. Proxicide is famous. Alvin-Earthworm is famous. I'm underground at best.

Honestly, that background shot was a placeholder that I put in just for that screenshot. It might not be the same background on the final cut.

R1665

Ay Yo! I gotta new post up Yo!

P.S. You kinda seem like the Tech N9ne of the sprite world, Cold at what you do but not extremely known.

Word

Hey R1665!

I am a fan of your animations! I also reviewed in your "VG EXILES EPISODE 2" which is a VERY LONG ONE so if you want to read it and respond to it, go ahead. I love someone who makes one of the best sprite battles ever. I am really looking forward to VG EXILES EPISODE 3. So far what I'm seeing in the screenshot will be a great thing. Will this episode have a character bio like the two episodes? (Episode 0 and Episode 2) For a while I thought, "Hey, why is it a season finale? This is my new favorite series." It wasn't this year, it was last year.

In this episode, will they be voice acting? Voice acting is the best. I haven't seen the next episode for a long time. Once the episode is released, I would favorite it, watch it, and review on it. And all my reviews will be HONEST, so if I give any future animations an unusual score, I would just tell you what you need to make that episode how it would improve.

Episode 1 had a character bio section. I simply hid it to keep Gambit's involvement a secret. The way to access it was shown at the end of the credits.

It can be accessed by hitting "BACKSPACE" while on the Main Menu.

Voice acting will be a staple of my series from here on in. I'm hoping that my earlier VA's will be willing to return for further installments. I'm also getting ready to contact a couple more VA's who have already offered their services.

R1665

That's cool

Lol i dont read the description

EXCELLENT!!!! it's almost done. between schoolwork and work the end of the month will be here in no time. I have watched the 2nd so many times now. I just love the animation in it and I expect nothing lesser in the 3rd. Keep up the good work dude

Whoa there, killer...

The FIGHT will (almost definitely) be done by the end of the month. I still have all of the story, menus, and other such stuff to do. It's just that I'm nearing the end of the most difficult part of the process.

The timetable from that point onward will largely depend on how long it takes me to get my outside sources organized.

R1665

lol oops I got overly excited lol.

i took these two guesses because the green line going through across the ground looks like some kind of robotic targeting system or something and those two including robot smoke are the only robot ninjas on mk and cyrax and sektor are the only characters other than night wolf and jade that has the color green in their attacks thats what lead me to those guesses sorry im a big mk fan

No need to apologize for being an MK fan. I understand completely!

My screenshots are generally shown as "behind the scenes" pieces. That green line is actually a guide line that I use to identify exactly what part of the floor the characters are supposed to stand on. I also put lines up walls and across ceilings so I know the exact point of impact when characters are thrown into them. It keeps the presentation neat and consistent.

It's basically just scaffolding and will be removed before final release.
