With regards to your hypothetical situation, I really couldn't say for sure. At this point, catastrophic data loss would equal the complete destruction of eight (active) months of VGE3 and about 3-4 months of VGE4 work.
However, I don't really believe that losing all of that would finish me. It would royally piss me off to no end, but it probably wouldn't break me. Of course, I say this having not actually gone through it. The whole reason why I make backups is so that I would never have to face that situation.
Besides, any event big enough to destroy all of my backups all at once would leave me with much bigger problems to deal with.

In the future, yes, but probably not alongside MK characters. The styles clash too much for my tastes.

SNK vs. Capcom
They are much less "cartoony" and look better in general. The contrast is less evident when they are used with MK characters. For example, Violent Ken looked like he very well could have come from a Mortal Kombat world, which made the story premise of VGE0 more believable.
Mixing Cammy with Sonya was pushing it, but it worked because they didn't have wildly different physiques. The unnecessarily "beefy" nature of SF3 characters makes them look seriously out of place when fighting other non-Capcom characters.
Go re-watch the MK vs. SF series. Even though Proxicide slimmed down his SF fighters by reducing their width, the MK fighters still look scrawny by comparison. Same thing goes with mixing SF3 and SNK.
Also, SNK-styled characters have similar numbers of frames per movement that MK characters have. I don't have to perform a delicate balancing act with removing frames from a Street Fighter's animations to make them move faster in relation to their opponent.

I have been here quite a while haven't I? I just absolutely love R1665's style of flash. It's the most fast-paced out of any flash fights I've ever seen and in my opinion is quite a bit better than Proxicide already. I hope one day I can make flash movies too, and have people fight over who the biggest fan is, haha!

The only Tekken fighter I would be interested in animating is Christie Montiero. If somebody made a good custom Christie for mugen I would consider it. Otherwise, no.
