You know what?

I found this to be highly enjoyable! Many props to you!

Happy Clock Day!

Punisher responds:

Thank ya.

THERE'S that ferocity I was talking about!

I can't give top scoring to a preview flash, but that just means that the finished product will score higher.

Your choreographic style is indeed unique and extremely entertaining. As I have stated before, the only real flaw in your technique is a lack of advanced technical application. Considering that you already possess the drive and ingenuity to make one hell of a fight, you should seek to more improve your technical skills and range. Flash by itself is an extremely potent program. When added to expertise in Photoshop, Audacity, and the like, it creates the potential for true epic-ness.

I look forward to the final product.

Surprisingly good!

Yeah, that 11 mb is entirely too much for such a short presentation. Luckily for you, that short burst of potential made up for it. Your choreographic style is actually quite innovative compared to the norm for Sonic sprite flashes. I heard a few DBZ sounds in there, but you by no means relied on DBZ choreographic cliches. I give you many props for that.

Thanks

Meh.

Are you going to upload a new preview every time you make thirty seconds' worth of progress? An earlier version of this was up only a few days ago. Bad form.

This looks like you made it in Windows Movie Maker and exported to .swf. That is generally not a formula for success on a flash site.

No substantial plot? No sound effects? The best I can do is a "4".

-----------------

Stylistically, it's generic as all hell; generic anime look, generic anime choreography. It is really your intention to spend your time doing the same horribly cliched anime nonsense that we've all seen done literally a million times before?

But, hey. Do whatever you want to do. Just remember that the whole cliched anime thing is a dead-end road that stops ten miles short of "mediocrity".

rokkg responds:

actually dipshit i uploaded it the second time because the first one didnt show the whole thing you you fucktard and its my first one i made you fuckin crybaby bitch so go put in a fresh maxypad you fucking monkey dick

Very nice!

I do have a few critiques, though. Here are the mechanical ones:

It would greatly benefit you to study up on button usage and menu design. When you have fight segments separated by story, there needs to be some form of skipping mechanism. I'm not saying that your story isn't good, it's just that it can be tiresome to go through it multiple times when I have already seen it.

Also, I've said this before, but I'll restate it here: You REALLY need to acquire and learn how to use Photoshop or some other image editing program. Rather than having large arenas built out of large pieces of other arenas, you can learn how to rip images apart into smaller, more manageable bits and build arenas from the ground up that have a more even feel.

Lastly, you might want to proofread the text as there were quite a few spelling errors. While it isn't really a big deal for understanding the story, you always want to leave the viewer with as few places as possible for them to point their fingers and go, "Ha! There's a mistake!".

Now the stylistic critiques. These reflect only my personal opinions, so feel free to disregard them:

These fights didn't seem to have the same level of ferocity that was present in your earlier video. Part of that might be from the characters, themselves. While I am pleased to see less-commonly-used characters like Geese and Rugal, "big energy" boss-types are usually not as entertaining to watch. There is such a thing as being too powerful. IMO, the best fights are between characters with weaknesses and limitations that can be exploited by their opponents.

I do think highly of your decision to use Kung Lao. He is an excellent character who is underutilized in flash.

Lastly, I wonder how much you still have in the tank with Jago. I believe that one treads dangerous ground when one decides to use the same character in repeated fights. No one character can remain spontaneous and interesting indefinitely.

All in all, a good show.

smoothuser responds:

I agree. I saw a few things off with the "ferocity" as you call it. I'll get the button thing eventually. I consider this one as an intermission or prelude to a more action packed episode. As far as using Jago again, I can't write him off yet. He's on a mission and he either has to see it through or die trying. I've always liked kung lao too and I think I could give him a movie of his own or utilize him to a further extent in a future movie. Why would you go through it multiple times? Always appreciated. Thanks for watching and the critiques.

I can definitely relate

I picked up Tekken 6 a little while ago and also noticed a sizable deficiency in appealing character design.

True story - I played through that first story mission where you fight alongside those futuristic shock troopers. At the end of that mission, Lars is standing over the body of one of the dead shock troops, his mask removed. At that moment, I realized that something is terribly wrong in a game when THE DEAD GUY ON THE FLOOR looks ten times more hardcore than the laughable, poorly-designed anime clown I'm being forced to play as.

Exactly when did we, as a species, come to the conclusion that this kind of crap was somehow "cool"?

Good vid.

DaestroXII responds:

I'm waiting until they bring tekken bowl back =D

Comedy gold once again.

Okay, you've now officially earned a spot in my VERY SHORT "favorite authors" list.

The humor is awesome and I wish you the best of luck in making as many of these as you want. Just bear in mind that Mortal Kombat action animators are in relatively short supply here...

I'd still love to see what you could do with a full-length fight.

R1665

weyden responds:

Thanks man. If I was to do something more serious it would have to be with capcom sprites as I have always been a capcom whore xD

Some very entertaining tests!

Damn, you're quick. Didn't you just release the last one three weeks ago?

I have to say, those arenas look damn good and your general animating ability is showing a staggering amount of development. You also have a really good head for visual humor.

I would like to know what you're planning to do once "practice" ends and "application" begins. Will you stay on the humor side of things, or will you go for action?

R1665

weyden responds:

Thanks heap. I think I will go with the humour side, because there is already lots of other kick ass action sprite animations out there that I cant compete with haha

*FACEPALM*

What were you thinking?!

This isn't a simple case of borrowing a few ideas or making an homage to Proxicide. This is outright copy/paste choreographic theft. There is not a single original sequence in this movie. Not even one.

Now, we all make impressions on each other and sometimes the really good ideas spread like wildfire in the sprite community. This, however, is just... no.

You've now become the sprite equivalent of the guy who buys cheap Wal-Mart brand sneakers, draws a swoosh on them with a red crayon, and then tries to sell these new "NIKE" brand shoes at the flea market. It's THAT bad.

You got a pass on your last video because it at least contained some original choreography. It had a few original ideas. This one was just a big, smoking ball of fail.

Really, what pisses me off the most is that I cannot offer even one bit of constructive criticism. I cannot make a single suggestion that would help to improve this movie. There is no silver lining. I HATE the fact that I cannot review this as an objective professional.

I give this a "1" because I at least got some entertainment out of typing this review with just my left hand. My right hand has been stuck to my forehead this whole time in full "facepalm" mode.

R1665

Not bad!

You got a couple of laughs out of me on this one. Good job!
