Can you give us another hint on the mk and sf characters identity?

Nope. The continued secrecy of this match-up is very important to me.

This will be the shocker match-up that NOBODY saw coming.

R1665

Like everyone else, I'd say leave out the tagline.

So now when is the approximate launch date??

You should put the tag line. Your work is good, but it still hasn't been added to the mortal kombat collection or such. You should even post it in the comment to recommend it for that section so it can finally get an update.

Nothing gets added to collections anymore....

Adding the tag line won't actually help with regards to getting it in the collections. A direct appeal in the comments section would be my best shot. Of course, that appeal would probably have to be aimed at the admin. It doesn't matter how many users recommend a video if admin never gets around to updating the collection.

Adding the tag line would really only result in more views. The question is whether those extra views are worth the negative consequences of including it. I've made the permanent decision that "MK vs SF" will NOT be required for the remainder of my flash career.

If anything, my episodes will decline in views a bit as I continue anyway. New viewers are less inclined to get into a series when they think that they will have to watch several other movies in order to "catch up". I've seen that happen many times before.

R1665

Hows it coming with the artwork?

I'll put up a new news post when I get it.

R1665

I don't get it... with the movies you've already submited, you should already be a LEGEND.

But you're just..... not :(

I hope that changes with this movie

The truth is, "legend" status is overrated. It's a nice concept on paper, but the reality of it is significantly less than ideal.

How many legends do you know of who can actually chat with fans of their work? "Legends" get so many messages from so many fans that they can no longer afford to communicate with people. They shut down. They disappear. If they somehow manage to avoid that, they at least become antisocial.

I'll probably never be as "legendary" in the sprite world as Proxicide and Alvin-Earthworm. I'm cool with that.

R1665

Do you have the storyline for the next episodes planned out already and characters included?

Yes. I have already written out the scripts for Episode 4.

One of the contributing factors of artwork lateness is that I usually don't write the scripts until the sprite work is almost done. The story already exists in my head, but I don't write it down until the last minute. So, by writing the Ep. 4 scripts first this time, I hope to give 3XStudios time to work rather than springing it on him late in the game.

------------------

Oh, and because I know you're wondering, I have the fight cards already planned for the rest of the series. I may perform some slight modifications along the way, but the question of who fights whom and when is already decided.

R1665

If anyone's interested, Tragedy 2 is up and running on <a href="http://www.clanMILO.piczo.com">www.clanMILO.piczo.com</a>

Tragedy 3 on the way :)

Is Proxicide really a legend? I didn't think so. I know he sort invented the MK vs SF sort of flash (or at least made it popular) but I didn't think his stuff was truly epic. Ok, I really like MK vs SF 2, but one was before he was at his peak, and 3 went totally overboard and in my opinion was less entertaining than it could have been.
I would say I have enjoyed your series of MK vs SF more than proxicides. You have a good story line, better characters, and at least so far don't have a predictable twist at the end of every fight.
My only gripe with you is that I have been checking this damned site for the past 6 months waiting for the next episode, and it is not yet here... but I suppose I can forgive you for being a human with responsibilities.

The only person on newgrounds I think is a legend is Alvinearthworm. He literlly seems to have groupies that hound him and possibly stalk him (at least on the internetz). He also makes incredibly good movies...
He is a detached from his fans, which adds to the legend status I guess.
He takes ~year between each episode... borderline ridiculous... though I guess this is reality when the flashes are as high quality (and as long) as what he is producing.

I admit that I am not as hardcore about newgrounds has some people, so I may not be accurate with some of my assertions here...

"Legend" is a function of one's popularity, not one's ability. While it is true that many good things have become legendary, there is also an abundance of good things that have not. For many people, "legend" status is something that they stumble upon because they have provided just the right thing at just the right time.

--------------------

Sorry about the delays, though... Everyone's diligence will eventually pay off.

R1665

The Rock is a Ledgend in the wresteling world but in Hollywood he more or less sucks (mostly cuz he's workin wit Disney The Evil Empire) I just think a true Ledgen is someone who if u mention their name once then people automatically know who your talkin about. Great Example of this would be Stan "The Man" Lee, Bruce Lee, Hughe Heffner, and Michael Jackson..... & certianly not all are detached from the people......at least Bruce Lee, The Rock and Stan Lee weren't ( aren't for thoughs still living and working where they were considered Ledgends).

WORD WORD!!

Good point, but there are levels of detachment.

It's just like any celebrity. They'll hang out if you're in the same room or something, but you have a 1-10,000 chance of getting a reply to an email. That's just the way it is. They receive so much correspondence that they cannot properly handle any of it and can focus only on those whom they happen to meet in real-life.

While flash animators certainly don't get as much fan mail as The Rock, we also generally don't meet people in real-life, either. That essentially means that there is a threshold you can reach in popularity as a flash artist before you lose the ability to effectively communicate with anyone other than your close friends for any length of time.

Then again, this might be the "dime store psychologist" in me speaking directly out of my ass...

Meh.

R1665

I never could understand why your account name is r1665. Long time ago I could not
remember that lol...Can you tell me what it means?

My last name is Riggs. Like Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon.

R1665

............

any update???

.............

Not really. It is being worked on, it's just that there's a whole lot of stuff going on that is delaying the art, none of which I begrudge 3X for. It'll be done when it's done.

R1665

............

so bro?

.............

hows life.

Uneventful at the moment.

R1665

it's a shame you can't use that song.
you have a nack for showcasing songs i have never heard of.
by the way, i saw you saying something about the rock.
so do you or did you follow wrestling?
i can understand that some people don't follow it
and still know who he is, kinda like john cena or hulk hogan.

I used to follow wrestling, but got out of it a few years ago. You can probably still see a heavy wrestling influence in my choreography.

R1665

Yea i noticed that u had Sakura use the stunner on Gambit in Exiles 2, and later had Gambit power bomb Sakura later. lmao

WORD WORD!!

I actually got much more into the wrestling games that came out on the N64 and the PS2 back in the day. I played the hell out of everything between WCW: World Tour to WWE: SmackDown vs. RAW 2006. I stopped after 2006 because they started gutting the create-a-player options in order to accommodate better features for the "real" wrestlers.

The more recent incarnations of the SmackDown vs Raw series have been making a big deal out of their "awesome" create-a-player options. It's crap. They don't even have HALF of the customization options that Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes the Pain did. That's why I no longer buy or play wrestling games.

Still, those many years of beating the shit out people on the WWE games have made a tremendous impact on my choreographic style. It's not just the attacks they use. It's the way that they move, the way that they react to attacks, and the presentation as a whole. It's fast and brutal, but not without a visible amount of showmanship.

R1665

last time i checked 3xs post he said he was having problems drawing them beautiful sexy ladies which is true if you remember how he drew cammy uhhh... bad.....hope he improves though. oh and have you herd about all those new vs. games capcoms coming out with MvC3 and two versions of SF vs Tekken/Tekken vs SF firsts ones 2.5D goodness while the latter is 3D 8way fury.but to be honest I haven't played Tekken that much but to me its like Soul Cal with fist. call me and optimist but I bet both versions will be good but I know my friends will nitpick the hell out of both versions it cant be helped I guess. your thoughts on that.

Having seen some of his newest work already, I can safely say that drawing the female form will no longer be an issue for him. Trust me.

----------------

You want my impressions on the new Capcom titles? Okay. Time to start alienating some fans...

MvC3: This game looks like absolute crap. Like its predecessors, MvC3 is a clusterfuck of epilepsy-inducing confusion that only the most speed-tweaked of caffeine junkies will be able to play effectively. Only now it's going to be worse. That whole dazzling EX-ultra-super-ultimate thing is way past its prime. It also doesn't help that 3x3 fighting is MANDATORY. I HATE that shit. *Stops self before entering full rant mode*

IMO, that whole nineties era of light-show anime "DragonBall-Z-ish" influence in fighting games needs to be quietly taken behind the barn and shot. It's lame.

--------------------

SF vs Tekken: Saw some game play videos of this one, too. This one seems to be a little bit more sensible. The fights I saw were 1x1 and they weren't throwing EX moves around more often than punches. That was a plus. I suppose that the more "normal" style of Tekken is forcing Capcom to tone that annoying shit down a bit. Honestly, my final verdict on the game will probably come down to what characters they put in it. A-list characters only = FAIL.

I wanna see Christie Monteiro take on Elena.

-------------------

Honestly, I've become greatly disillusioned with Capcom over the last few years. Say what you will about the direction that Mortal Kombat has taken over the years. At least Midway allowed their characters to grow and develop.

The ballsiest thing that Capcom has done over the last 20 years was to put athletic pants on Chun-Li in the Alpha Series. Each character in any Capcom fighting game is exactly like their previous version. Same look, same moves, same storylines, same everything. Ryu has been the exact same boring, pointless character for the last two decades.

Capcom should count their blessings that nostalgia is trendy these days.

So, how many of you are pissed at me now?

R1665

R1665 is rigth about Capcom, This company always put the same characters with the same move in a story that is no so difference from the others. I notice that some characters have some similarities powers in street figther 4. In Mortal Kombat, It is always elvoving, the stories are good, the ninja have now they own identity and costume, they are no more palette swap . Some prefers street figther and i understant that, but me I always prefers MK for the story, the characters and of course, the fatality.

I agree that the MvC games are too much of a cluster fuck for any reasonably...visioned... person to understand what in the hell is going on. When playing the games I often wish they could fix that, or even try to address, which they really don't.
That said, occasionally it is fun to play those types of games. Though I'll be honest and admit that I can only last 15-30 min before my brain is overloaded and doesn't want to watch anymore.

Although I can see why Ryu annoys you, he also is the staple of fighter video games. He is (arguably) the most well known single character. I have more of a problem with his many many duplicates than with Ryu himself. Ryu and Ken (just because he was there from the beginning) can stay, the rest can go.

I liked Soul Caliber, myself. At least, the original one (only one I ever played). Each character is unique and has a style you can learn, yet the game itself has it's own style such that I can pick a character I'm not familiar with and still be decent. I will admit, though, that sometimes I wished the characters had an occasional (rarely occasional) super move they could bust out. Sometimes its awesome to see something you weren't expecting... which is what supermoves should be for.
Another benefit to soul caliber is that it was more about timing and precision, than about hitting a billion combos in sequence at once.

To be honest, I haven't found a fighting game that can hold me interest for very long. The only one that came close was Super Smash Bros (the original), which isn't a traditional fighter, but definitely still requiring.

Sadly (or maybe not), I don't play video games very much anymore. Having really had time for it, anyways, been too busy with school. That may change soon when I graduate. I'm so out of it now, I don't know what games are good, or even what new systems are coming out soon, etc...

I never said that Ryu wasn't a well-known icon of fighting games. I said that he is a pointless and boring character. I stand by that statement.

I have no problem with Street Fighter 4 aside from the lack of originality. They don't go overboard with the super-moves and ultra light shows. It's fun to just pick it up and play around with it every once in a while, but I have neither the time nor the patience to really delve into it as a title. Needless to say, I won't be doing any competitive SFIV gaming.

Like you, I also have a hard time maintaining interest in fighting games. This may come as a surprise considering the work I do, but I'm really not very good at them. I'm better at sandbox-style games like GTAIV that allow me to step back and form a plan of attack. When I'm put on the spot and have to do something "right here, right now", It usually doesn't work out.

R1665

The new Mortal Kombat game looks retarded...I just don't like the way
Johny Cage looks....He has some Gay ass tattoos lol.
You know MvC series does piss me off a little bit but, I still think it deserves a
chance.

Have you seen the E3 video where Ed Boon is being interviewed while the lead designers are playing?

It looks like the Mortal Kombat franchise is about to be taken to the next level. The play style greatly appeals to my philosophy that fighting games should be simple. The fighting itself is brutal, bloody, and more violent than any MK game before it.

Let me put it this way - Dazzling light shows do not impress me. What DOES impress me is when I can watch something like these X-RAY moves that forces me to say, "Owwwww!!....." out loud. THAT impresses me.

When watching or playing SFIV, there is never a moment where I FEEL a character's pain. Even the most powerful EX moves do not illicit this response. However, when I watch that video and see Kung Lao slice Johnny Cage in half a la Goldfinger, I wince. When Scorpion performs the first slice of his fatality on Sub-Zero, my abdominal muscles tense up. That REALLY impresses me.

THAT is what a fighting game should be.

---------------

As for Johnny Cage's new look, I was a bit leery at first. However, I soon realized that he is just the type of guy to have HIS OWN NAME tattooed on his chest. It seems much more acceptable to me after that realization. Besides, it's just a part of the whole "development" thing that Midway does. That developmental process has produced this game that I will most definitely be buying.

R1665

The only fighting I useda to play alot was Soul Cal 2. 3 felt unbalance and 4 was all right but the weapons were only positive effects felt pointless with no negative.I also useda play guilty gear but then blazblue came around and i really like that better for some reason but I only rented or borrowed it Im just waiting for Continuum Shift

.As for other fighting games the last Mortal Kombat bored me even though I like DC.I'm excited for MvC3 cause I like the last one and play 2 sometime still with my friends, cross overs are for fun to me I don't take them to seriously though SF vs Tekken looks a bit more serious.

New Mortal Kombat looks alright hope that does well but I like Deception the most out of the 3d games but the new ones not so I'll wait and see on that one.

gahh I suck at typing

While I play many games I'm about normal difficulty on most and get my ass kicked by most of my friends one my best friends is a Brawl God with Luigi I like using Ike.

Its good to know you have a strong opinion keep that bro

I would really like to make games in my future and fighting games is one of the many genres I like to get into plus the staple game genres but WE ARE OVER I MEAN OVER SATURATED WITH FPS GAMES I LOVEEM BUT ITS GETIN BAD BRA BAD WE NEED MORE PLATFORMERS AND ADVENTURER GAMES but I still want to make some shooters.

Yes SHIFT is my cruise control for cool but seriously .....Oh wait I have not really read comic books before probably a few to be honest got the watchmen book but could you recommend I'm kinda taking a break from gaming and all I've been doing is watchin anime and browsing some manga online.Though I have ben playin them Pokermans.

So I guess that's good to know 3X has improved don't know what else to talk about later dude.

I haven't played MK vs. DC, although I do admit that many of the play mechanics look appealing. I didn't care for Deadly Alliance or Deception because I felt that they had become too complicated. When you get to the point where you have to perform 18-hit style-branching combos to advance a tutorial, you've gone too far.

However, I LOVED Armageddon. It simplified those unnecessary, long-ass combos from DA and Deception. It also had all of the characters. My "top three" were present and very well represented.

------------------

As for comic books, I don't have many recommendations for stuff that is currently running. Marvel has been pimping Deadpool hardcore ever since the Wolverine movie. He's got at least three book series running at any given time and is now making constant appearances in other titles. I have no problem with that considering I'm not sick of it yet. Marvel Zombies just ended it's 5th series and I'm pretty sure that its out of steam now, although I do like Machine Man.

Go back and try out the first few Marvel Zombies series. You won't be disappointed. They're available in trade paperback (TPB), which is cheaper and handier than individual issues.

I would also recommend the now-complete "100 Bullets" series from Vertigo. It's available from start to finish in TPB.

Although Marvel has since canceled the Exiles series, the entire run has been put out in TPB. This was the premise that the VG Exiles was built upon. To understand the Marvel Exiles is to understand the VG Exiles.

R1665

Which one would you choose zombie Liu Kang or the living one?

That would depend on how Liu Kang plays. I liked the idea of killing him and bringing him back as a zombie, but Midway didn't take it far enough.

If you're going to make him a zombie, then MAKE HIM A ZOMBIE. Don't just go with a superficial re-skinning on something like that. Slouch him over, make him growl, turn his moves into half-forgotten, more feral versions and let him go crazy. As it stands now, Zombie Liu Kang is just an alternate skin. It breaks the illusion.

To answer your question, I would gladly choose zombie Liu Kang as long as they complete the package and actually give him all the necessary zombie characteristics. However, if it's just going to be "normal Liu Kang with zombie skin", then don't bother. Leave him alive.
