Good times.

I had to deduct a point for the ending, though. That works for network television because the time frame between episodes is measured in days. For a flash series that can be months or years between episodes, maybe not such a good idea...

Stylistically speaking, I just couldn't get into it. Not your fault, so no deductions there. It doesn't seem to invoke the same aura of intensity that most of your other videos do. For the characters you used, it seemed a bit to "happy", too "playful". I never really felt the sense of urgency or danger as I did with the first episode.

Again, that's all stylistic and subjective. Feel free to disregard my matters of opinion. It's one hell of a flash, it just didn't "click" with me personally.

(Oh, and thanks for the shout-out!)

No happy theme for you then? I guess you are a brutal savage MK type of guy. Well it's all fair play. But those ninjas were hanging!

It's good for what it is.

The only issues that I have with it are stylistic, so feel free to disregard anything I say.

First of all, I think you may have overdone the photoshopping on that arena. It does not fit well with the characters. It's too "colorful", too "happy". Secondly, I couldn't help but think "why do they bleed rose petals?" when I looked at the hitsparks.

Still, for a short collab entry, it was very good.

Yeury responds:

I totally agree with you. The background was way too happy, but this was a background that a guy made for me for something else, cause I really don't know how to use photoshop and make the backgrounds look good. Since i had a spare background I just though I'd used it.

The hitsparks, I know they are pretty weak. Their weren't supposed to be rose petals! lol! I just put a bunch of thing together very randomly and thats what I came up with.

I wish I could learn how to use photoshop to make everything look "pretty" or "flashy", but it took me all of last summer to learn how to animate by myself with the tutorials in the NG collection. I really don't have the time to go through all of that again!

Thanks for the review R1665!

Hmmmmm....

I must say that your choreography was innovative despite the occasional anime cliches. You know how to make a good fight.

However, I had to deduct a couple of points for construction. While that sound loop at the beginning is easily avoidable, it should never have been an issue in the first place. It's an easy fix and you should have taken care of it before submitting. That kind of detail matters. You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, even those who don't follow directions.

Also, when you have your action sequences separated by story, you should have some sort of chapter select feature. It would be a different case if you had one long action sequence, but waiting between them is tedious during later viewings when I am already familiar with the plot line.

Kudos on the text. You actually managed to have floating text that wasn't intrusive! Good job!

thanks! and your right the beginning was a big problem! Im acually thinking about taking it out... knowing people wont listen to it lol

Just so you know...

That was the most hardcore laundry-folding I have ever seen.

10/10 for the bitch slaps. Good times!

KillerKandyKorn responds:

lol the laundry scene was the first scene i did thanks for the review

Pretty good!

The last couple of major hits really sold it for me! We so very rarely see that applied to Street Fighters. It's very refreshing!

Oh, and have you TRULY "watched them all"?

R1665

KillerKandyKorn responds:

there was only two or three pages of them of course i only did one search and that was for Street Fighter but i don't think i could have found much more

Not bad!

You're off to a good start!

Let me give you a tip: You don't have to dedicate one specific layer to each fighter. I noticed that Ken's sprites held the top position during the whole movie, which makes it look awkward when Ryu lands blows "behind" Ken. Instead of dedicating one layer each to "Ken" and "Ryu", make generic layers such as "Top Fighter" and "Bottom Fighter". You can then swap which layers you put the characters in depending on which one you need to be on "top". Just make sure that you can keep up with it.

Although there are some exceptions, the attacker should generally be on top.

WhiteGhost responds:

Wow a review from u is just wow! I been working on Ep one and i noticed that too. You just made it sound easier for me to do tyvm! Ppl also said that the camera was a problem so i programmed a Virtual camera a few days ago to help with that. Thx for the tip and im dying to see Gambit fight. Making him evil was bad ass idea!

Very good!

I can't say that I agree with your assertion that your choreography "blows". Considering the very limited nature of Castlevania sprites, your choreography was excellent!

You know what? Considering that so many talented new sprite artists are now springing up these days, I think we might just be seeing the beginning of a new golden age in sprite fighting!

A Proxicide-inspired second Renaissance, perhaps?

R1665

RopeDrink responds:

Thank you kindly!

I don't deny that the only reason I made this was due to the MKvSF series, and yes, I am also awaiting your Exiles episodes! Ironically, I was working on a Guile v John Talbain before this one and decided to scrap it due to being inexperienced at the time. Then, I see Guile and Talbain in your own series years later.

It's a funny old sprite-fighting world!

Really good work!

The only thing I had to ding you on was the audio quality. You did have a 2.5 megabyte leeway there to improve it. I see from your description box that filesize is an issue, but consider the following:

If the viewer has a fast connection, then the difference between 7.5 MEGS and 10 MEGS is one of mere moments.

If the viewer has a slow connection, and is willing to sit through 7.5 MEGS of loading, then what's another 2.5 MEGS?

It is my opinion that audio quality is just as important as video quality. I think that skimping on the sound of an otherwise beautiful flash is like driving a luxury sportscar after sandblasting all the paint off of it.

But, you know how the old saying goes. "Opinions are like assholes..."

You do good work, man. No matter what I or anybody else says, the most important question you should ask yourself at the end of the day is, "Am I happy with and proud of this work?"

If you can answer "Yes", then nothing else matters.

Slicing-Claws responds:

Thanks man, Good job with your daily 2nd place.

Outstanding!

This is a work of art. The only substantial problem I see at the moment is that your score is too low. I'll see what I can do about that...

The only constructive advice I can give you is stylistic and entirely subjective: I felt that the Linkin Park song was too "weak" for the first battle scene. It just didn't seem to fit the atmosphere. Secondly, you seem to excel in the difficult craft of open-area battle, so I must admit that the subway portion seemed a bit too restrained to take proper advantage of your strengths. Of course, these opinions reflect nothing more than my own personal tastes and bear absolutely no weight on your score. Feel free to disregard them.

R1665

Suroy responds:

WOW.... thanks for this note

I don't will speak nothing about the Link Park music... My friend say me the same thing... but my choreography already it was adjusted to time of music... so any music fit too in this animation... so I leave to see what would happen....

About the subway, was intentional, I think show to all.. is no escape... fight until death.

So thanks, thanks, thanks, thank you very much... And your sequel ? any date?

Very well done

The fight was very well done, but there were a few things which, in my humble opinion, could have been done better.

First of all, the hitsparks seemed a little plain and awkward. Secondly, you spent WAY too much time milking your "charging" and "slow-mo" sequences. Thirdly, the fighters, at certain points, seemed to just stand there and wait for the other to attack.

Those are just my nitpicky observations, though.

Very well done.

azn-sk8er-dude responds:

Thanks man, I love your movie too, if you know this is NOT my style.
